PrePatent PrePartnering Wisdom wants everyone to be able to read, understand and use prepatent.org, including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice control or keyboard-only navigation. This statement explains our goal, what we have done, where we know we fall short, and how to tell us about a problem.

Effective date: October 13, 2026

Our commitment

We aim for the site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive and neurological disabilities.

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We consider it when we design pages, publish new articles and add features, and we review the site as content and plugins change. This statement describes our goal and current approach; it is not a certification of conformance.

Accessibility features

Navigation

  • Keyboard navigation: menus, links, buttons, forms and interactive tools are designed to be usable with a keyboard alone.
  • Visible focus: keyboard focus is shown with a visible outline so you can see where you are on the page.
  • Skip link: a “Skip to content” link lets keyboard and screen reader users jump past the header and menu straight to the main content.
  • Consistent structure: pages use a consistent layout with a header, main content and footer, and proper heading levels so screen reader users can move through a page by headings.
  • Tables of contents: longer articles and policies include a table of contents with links to each section.

Visual design

  • Color contrast: text and interface colors are chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios.
  • Color is not the only cue: information is not conveyed by color alone.
  • Resizable text: text can be enlarged using browser zoom without losing content or function, and the layout adapts to small screens.
  • Reduced motion: the site respects your operating system’s “reduce motion” setting and minimizes animations and transitions when it is turned on.

Content

  • Alternative text: meaningful images, such as historical patent drawings and portraits, have text alternatives; purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Plain language: we write in clear, plain English and explain technical patent terms, with a glossary for reference.
  • Descriptive links: link text is written to make sense out of context where possible.
  • Forms: fields in the contact form have visible labels, and errors are described in text.

Known limitations

Despite our efforts, some parts of the site may not yet be fully accessible:

  • Historical documents and drawings: some images of old patent documents and drawings contain detailed text or diagrams. Alternative text gives a summary, but it may not capture every detail. We are happy to provide a fuller description on request.
  • Third-party components: some features rely on third-party plugins and services, such as the cookie consent banner, the shop and checkout, and external payment pages. We choose and configure these with accessibility in mind, but we do not fully control their code.
  • Downloadable files: some digital products or documents may not be fully accessible to every assistive technology. If you need an alternative format, please ask.
  • Interactive tools: quizzes and self-assessment tools are built to work with a keyboard and screen readers, but complex interactions may still present difficulties for some users.
  • External websites: sites we link to have their own accessibility standards.

If a limitation prevents you from accessing information or a service, contact us and we will work with you to provide it another way, for example by email or in an alternative format.

Compatibility

The site is designed to work with current versions of major browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge, on desktop and mobile devices, and with common assistive technologies used with those browsers. Older browsers may not display every feature correctly.

Feedback and contact

We welcome your feedback. If you find a barrier on the site, or need content in a different format, please let us know:

To help us understand the problem, please include the web address of the page, a description of what happened, and, if you are comfortable sharing it, the browser and assistive technology you were using. We aim to reply within 5 business days and to propose a fix or an alternative way to access the content.
