Who writes our content
The site is run by its owner, Amnon, a retired businessman and inventor. He served as the first lobbyist for the regional inventors society in his Canadian province, a volunteer role in which he met leaders from government, industry and education, including the USPTO. He has prepared proposals to federal and provincial governments and to the USPTO, including the “Pre-patent Registry and silent Trading-Post” proposal and the “Super Economy” concept. You can read more on our About Us page.
The owner is responsible for all content on the site and approves every article before it is published. He is not a lawyer or registered patent attorney or agent, and our content is educational, not legal advice, as explained in our Disclaimer.
Sources
We prefer primary and authoritative sources, in this order:
- Primary legal sources: statutes and official texts, such as the Venetian Patent Statute of 1474, the U.S. Patent Act and the America Invents Act, available from sources such as congress.gov.
- Official patent offices and organizations: the USPTO, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, the European Patent Office, WIPO and the Israel Patent Office.
- Established reference works and scholarship on patent history and innovation.
- The owner’s own experience, which we present as experience and perspective, not as data.
Where we link to sources, we link to pages we are confident exist and are maintained by the responsible organization. We do not present unverified statistics as fact. When a figure is widely cited but hard to verify precisely, such as estimates of how few patents achieve commercial success, we say so and describe it as an estimate.
Fact-checking
Before publication, factual statements are checked against reliable sources. We pay particular attention to:
- dates of laws and events, such as the signing of the America Invents Act on September 16, 2011;
- legal rules and terms, such as patent terms and filing deadlines;
- names of institutions, laws and procedures; and
- any statement about a named person or company.
We do not publish invented quotes, testimonials, client stories, case outcomes or awards. Hypothetical examples are clearly presented as hypothetical.
Opinion and analysis
This site has a point of view. We believe inventors should set a realistic business strategy before going to market, and we advocate the pre-patent pre-partnering approach. We are also critical of some developments in the patent system and of the market power of large companies.
We separate facts from opinion by:
- using clear wording such as “in our view”, “we believe” or “from the inventor’s perspective” for opinions;
- presenting criticism of institutions, laws and companies as analysis and perspective, not as claims of wrongdoing;
- basing opinions on facts that are stated accurately; and
- acknowledging, where relevant, that others hold different views.
Independence and sponsor disclosure
The site is sponsored by Superior Hulls Inc. (Canada/Israel), a maritime innovation corporation working on the use of air injected under ship hulls. Content that discusses maritime innovation or the sponsor’s field, such as our article on air lubrication and ship hulls, is written with this relationship disclosed.
We also sell our own consulting services and digital products. When an article mentions them, it is clear that they are our own offerings. We do not accept payment to publish articles or favorable coverage. If any paid or sponsored content is published in the future, it will be clearly labeled.
Use of editorial assistance tools
We believe readers deserve to know how content is produced. Content on this site is prepared with the help of editorial assistance tools, including AI writing assistants, which may be used for research support, drafting, structuring and editing.
These tools do not replace human judgment. Every page is reviewed by the owner before publication, and the owner remains responsible for its accuracy, opinions and tone. Facts produced with tool assistance are subject to the same fact-checking rules as all other content.
Corrections policy
We make mistakes, and we want to fix them quickly. If you find a factual error, an outdated statement or a broken source, please email [email protected] with the subject line “Correction” and include the page address and what you believe is wrong.
When we confirm an error:
- Minor errors (typos, broken links, formatting) are corrected without a note.
- Factual errors are corrected, and a short correction note is added at the end of the article describing what changed.
- Significant errors that change the meaning of an article are corrected with a clear note near the top of the article.
If we disagree that something is an error, we will explain why. Requests to change opinions or analysis are considered on their merits, but we will not remove fair commentary simply because someone disagrees with it.
Updates and reviews
Patent laws, fees and procedures change. We review articles periodically and update them when laws or official guidance change, when we find better sources, or when readers raise issues. Updated articles show a revised date. Historical articles may remain unchanged where the history itself has not changed.
Questions about this policy are welcome through our contact page.
